At this writing, a contingent of Boy Scouts and dads have boarded their fifty plus foot sailboat in the US Virgin Islands for a 10 day sailing adventure, known as "Sea Base".  Several of the boys are Eagle Scouts and for some, it is their last Scouting activity, having graduated from high school and 'aged out' of Scouting.

But, just thirty six hours ago, all but two had never been sailing before!  Two had earned their Small Boat Sailing Merit Badge. But, for the rest, getting aboard...

As the premier one-design regatta of North Carolina, the 64th annual the Governor's Cup drew 84 boats in ten fleets, including eight Flying Scots.  In near perfect weather on Saturday, PRO Bill Jarvis and the capable race committee kicked off six starts per race, three races over the day.  Many of the sailors celebrated the Father's Day weekend by sailing with their sons or daughters, including Flying Scot sailor Charlie Buckner with his son Silas.  Sunday racing was cancelled with a tropical storm passing through.

The 2021 Buckeye Regatta at Hoover Sailing Club came off without a hitch … and, unfortunately, without much wind either, at least on Saturday. But our 13 competitors were here for the fun. They stayed out for 2 painful Saturday races that the Windmill fleet Race Committee worked diligently to set up. Sunday wind was better so we got a total of 4 races for the regatta. We had 8 out of town boats, including a team from Rochester, NY, 2 teams from Cowan Lake and 5 teams from Deep Creek. Jay Huling and Ray Trask from Hoover  sailed to a 2nd place finish. 1st and 3rd went to Cowan Lake sailors...
