There was a story within a story at the 2016 Great 48 Regatta at Lake Norman Yacht Club May 7-8, 2016.  First, there were 42 boats registered, which is wonderful!  On Saturday, the winds were 10-12 gusting to 18, and on Sunday, things were a little more steady at 11.  Lake Norman always puts on a great show and this was no exception.  Fleet 158 hosted its first "Make Your Scot Fly" performance clinic this weekend. Flying Scot builder, Harry Carpenter, and daughter, Carrie Andrews, graciously donated their time and expertise to help Flying Scot sailors and crew get the most performance and enjoyment out of their boats.

Ten beginner through intermediate sailors from as far as Chattanooga joined in a learning experience unique to the region. Well, Chattanooga sure was a blast again this year! 

With 29 boats, about double the typical turnout, it was as if all the stars aligned: Birmingham Sailing Club, one of the largest southern fleets outside of Florida, decided to start traveling and three or four boats came from there; Lynn and Bill Bruss from Chattanooga spent the winter racing in Florida, and so Mark and Michelle Taylor returned the favor, traveling up from Tampa...
