FLYING SCOT GULF DISTRICTS AND JUBY WYNNE MEMORIAL ONE-DESIGN REGATTA
NEW ORLEANS, LA,
Warm sunny skies greeted competitors for this 2012 District Championship. Winds on Saturday were 10-15 knots out of the ENE, creating choppy and shifty conditions. On Sunday the winds were 5-10 out of the NNW with some leftover seas. Host SYC had its 2 new hoists operational for the first time (for a total now of 3 hoists), so launching and retrieving was not an issue! All crews received the special souvenir regatta glass, and free keg beer at the conclusion of both race days. There was also live music and a seafood boil on Saturday evening, as well as a nautical "fashion show". There was also live music in the bar on Sunday, along with grilled food by the pool.
In addition to winning the Gulf District Championship, for which he was presented the CHARLES L. DEES Memorial Trophy, skipper David Bolyard was presented the Comissioner General's Trophy. This is a crystal sailboat that was donated to SYC by member John G. Weinmann, who served as the United States Commissioner General of the 1984 Worlds Fair held in New Orleans that year.
