2012 Flying Scot North American Championship

Title:

2012 Flying Scot North American Championship

Date:
Saturday, June 23, 2012 to Friday, June 29, 2012

Flying Scot Fleet 83 invites you to Carlyle Lake and the Carlyle Sailing Association (CSA) for the 2012 North American Championships, June 23-29. Be part of the action in 2012! To find out more, visit our website at http://www.csa-sailing.org/nacs

We are located in Philippi Harbor in Hazlet State Park, 50 miles east of St. Louis, Missouri. Carlyle Lake is a 26,000 acre man-made lake about 8 miles long and 3 miles wide. The lake provides excellent sailing with no obstructions, currents or tides. The winds in June are moderate, with the temperature highs in the 80’s and 90’s. We have a wonderful picnic pavilion and a large air-conditioned clubhouse.

Nationally known PRO Ted Beier and his race committee will manage the races. Ted was PRO for the 1998 and 2004 NACs held at CSA. Ted has also served as PRO at nationals for Lightnings, Snipes, 470s and E Scows.

CSA has all the equipment and boats needed for excellent and safe racing. The Fleet 83 team makes measuring quick and easy. Because the club grounds are adjacent to the lake, wind waiting is done on shore in the shade rather than on the water.

The facility is sail only, with parking for 350 boats with tie-downs. The protected harbor has 3 electric jib cranes, two boat ramps and four floating docks - each 200 feet long. There are ample restrooms/shower facilities and paved car parking. CSA has been the venue for numerous regional and national sailing events, including the 1998 and 2004 NACs and the 2009 Championship of Champions Regatta. Many consider CSA to be one of the country’s best small sailboat facilities. It is a great venue for novices as well as seasoned sailors.

Although Carlyle Lake is in a rural setting, there are affordable motels within 20 minutes of the harbor. Boat and car parking is on site next to the harbor and security is provided by a full time harbor master. Camping is not permitted on CSA grounds, however it is available adjacent to the club in beautifully shaded Hazlet State Park. Hazlet State Park also offers cabins for rent. (Advanced reservations are suggested for both camping and cabins. Cabins should be reserved as soon as possible after January 15, 2012.)
