Sprite Island Yacht Club Flying Scot Fleet 142 hosted the 34th annual Douglass Orr Invitation Regatta on Saturday, June 25th and Sunday, June 26th. Six SIYC sailors and their crews were joined by 10 other skippers and crews from surrounding clubs and as far away as Maryland and Massachusetts making for a very well attended event. Fleet 142 as very proud to host Harry Carpenter, the builder of the Flying Scot.
While the racers were challenged on Saturday by very light winds, Sunday offered a great day of sailing with a consistent, moderate breeze.
Fleet 142 takes pride in their hospitality; providing breakfast on both mornings, lunch makings, and a wonderful Saturday dinner party complete with cocktails, appetizers and dessert. Sunday afternoon culminated in a luncheon and awards ceremony.
Fleet 142's Captain, Erin Cummings, was very proud of the success of the regatta and thanked all the members of the fleet and the members of SIYC who worked so hard to accomplish such an event.
Many of the participants at the Sunday awards luncheon spoke of what a unique and beautiful experience it is to sail at Sprite Island. Everyone left the event looking forward to 2017's regatta.
Top 3 finishers were Roger Sharp and Laura Favicchio of Massapaug Yacht Club, Bob McElwain and Amy Bullard of Cedar Point Yacht Club and Mark Reifenhauser and Adam Reifenhauser of Candlewood Yacht Club.
