                             CONFEDERATE ADMIRALS REGATTA REPORT

We wish to thank the following Flying Scot sailors and crew who participated in our regatta at Muscle Shoals Sailing Club:  Dixie Lakes District Governor Sandy Eustis and crew Keith Eustis #5610 from Lake Keowee, SC, Bill Northrup #1891 and crew Steve Glawe from Lake Lanier Sailing Club (Atlanta), Rob Fowler and crew Linda Lind from Privateer Yacht Club (Chattanooga).  MSSC Scot sailors included Willson Jenkins #5639 and crew Charlie Buller #5720 from Lake Charles, LA, Joel VerPlank #3689 and crew Randall Dannemann from Bay Waveland Y.C., MS.  George Makowski and Andrew Putnam took turns skippering our club owned Flying Scot (Yellow Boat).  Long time Thistle sailor, Bob Kuehlthau and his crew Michael, grabbed one of the Scots owned by one of our club members and provided some strong competition for us.

Saturday morning arrived and there was no wind.  But not to worry!  Our first start was scheduled for 1 PM.  Finally, about 2:30, the race committee signaled that there was enough wind to start a race.  The wind built to about 10 and stayed that way for the whole race two times around windward-leeward.

The second race started in moderate wind and gradually diminished on the first leg.  The Race Committee shortened the finish to the downwind leg and we all barely finished.

We all won the party with wonderful food, great Irish/Country music, home brewed beer by Randy Myers and hand crafted cocktails by Willson Jenkins.

Sunday morning arrived with no wind.  The Race Committee raised the postpone flag at 9:30 AM and announced that a final decision to race will be made at 11:00 AM.  The lake was absolute glass at 11:00 AM and everyone pulled their boats and prepared to travel.  After a nice lunch, the awards were made.  We noticed that there were some ripples on the water.  By the end of awards, it was blowing 10 to 15 and we all wondered why this could not have happened 2 hours earlier.  That is sailing and you have to take what is dished out!
