Replaced Centerboard Trunk Cap
Submitted by JohnD6516 on Tue, 10/08/2019 - 13:14
I replaced the CB trunk cap. I not only had to drill new screw holes to attach the new cap, but because the main sheet block is now attached with four nuts and bolts I needed to drill holes in the fiberglass trunk top to accommodate the bolt ends. Do I need to caulk or otherwise seal these holes to avoid leaks?

Sealant
Any hole that is exposing or drilling through wood, is best sealed. I like to use 3M 4200. Be careful about 5200, because it can create a bond which is near impossible to remove later, if you have to.

Centerboard Trunk Cap
I am considering replacing my centerboard trrunk cap. My main sheet swivel was loose and after removing the cap have found deterioration that will need to be fixed. I thought of using wood as I have seen it used in a number of pictures. Any thoughts about keeping the original gel coat cap or replacing it with wood ?

Centerboard Trunk Cap
Well Im found some Mahogany at the local wood outlet, Woodcraft. Stained , sealed and looks good. I like the wood look against the white gelcoat. I may be thinking of adding additional wood trim. Has anyone done this to their boat?
