Race Legal Compas - Tack Tick?

Forums:

Racers,

Can anyone clarify the acceptablility of the Tack Tick T060 (https://www.hodgesmarine.com/tact060-tacktick-t060-micro-compass.html) for racing?

I'm looking at the class rules (Article S V 7 b.) which state that Electronic digital compasses are OK but "the compass shall have no esternal connection and shall provide neither wind nor boat speed; shall not coputer correlations between time and distance; and shall not calculate lifts and headers . .."

I'm sure I've seen some model of TackTick used in club races.

I don't know how to confidently intepret the "shall not calculate" language as against the promotional copy of the TackTick: "To win races you must react to even small wind shifts. Readable, precise and reliable heading information from you compass is critical. Digital compasses deliver this data right into your natural field of view, where you need it, how you need it, when you need it. The Micro Compass's tactical scale gives you clear stable figures corresponding on port and starboard tack. The readings whilst tacking are always the same, meaning you never have to remember numbers."

I am guessing that since the compass is not taking in wind or computing the degree of lift/header (just giving you a number that allows you to do the math) it is acceptable?

Any definitive clarification would be welcome!
