21 Teams representing 7 regional Flying Scot fleets and a single New York team came to South Carolina’s Blue Ridge upstate corner for Fleet 193’s annual Grits ‘n Haggis Regatta, held on Lake Keowee on May 18 & May 19, 2024.  Although the weekend weather forecast called for a 75%+ chance of rain on both days, the slow rolling front passed through with overnight storms only. The New England District event was hosted by the Massabesic Yacht Club at Lake Massabesic in Auburn, NH and was planned early in the year (for us Northerners).  This may be one of the reasons the event was lightly attended. Often you have to choose race dates early before the race calendar is completely booked and the thought was to make this a tune-up race for upcoming Northeast events including the North American Championship in Connecticut.

Late breaking news!  Fleet 158 Bombers fielded 6 boats for the Grits 'n Haggis regatta at Keowee Sailing Club on May 18/19.  With one more boat, we would have matched the Keowee "home team" for attendance.

Great weather and awesome camaraderie.  Sorry!  No action pix.  We were too busy sailing!

The Hawg Wild Regatta completed 5 races with 3 class of boats represented. The Flying Scot winner of the Hawg Wild regatta was Chet Hight, Skipper, and his crew Joe Falasco! The second place winners (from Birmingham/Atlanta area) were Barry Hambrick, Skipper, and his crew, Tracy Hambrick missing the lead by 1 point! Hoover Sailing Club held its annual Buckeye Regatta May 18 and 19, with this regatta also serving as the Ohio District Championship. The event attracted 15 competitors, with 6 travelling to Hoover to participate in this early season event. Wind on Saturday was light, but our PRO and crew were able to get 4 races finished. Sunday morning there was no wind, so the event was declared finished. Bruce and Nathan Kitchen of Cowan Lake edged out Brian and Pamela Pace of Hoover for the Championship. Scot Stephen and Mark Presley of Hoover took 3rd.
