As I finish up my first year as your President, I am pleased with our class and how we are doing, but I am a bit concerned about keeping our fleets going as well as growing.  Some fleets are continuing to thrive and grow while others are dropping off.   Our membership is down a bit this year, and I am hoping we can bring the level back up to previous years’ levels.  I have tried to reach out to many of you myself, but there are things we can all do to help with fleet maintenance and growth.  Please feel free to reach out to me at any time if you have questions or...

FY12 Flying Scot Foundation Awards

   The Foundation board has carefully considered a number of applications for funding this coming year and has made the following awards which total $4,650:

Fleet 6 (Deep Creek Lake, MD; Bob Vance, Fleet Captain) requested Speakers Bureau funds to help pay travel expenses so that Kelly Gough can put on a day-long sail training session just prior to the Sandy Douglass Memorial Regatta, July 27-29 at Deep Creek Lake (Award: $250).

 Lake Norman Flying Scot Fleet #48 ordered up perfect wind for their annual Great 48 regatta May 5 and 6 and 44 boats participated. This club often has large numbers at their regattas, but this was a great showing even by their standards.

In addition to good wind and lots of boats, the regatta committee arranged for FS boats # 1/First One (owned and sailed by Harry Carpenter) and #2/Dream Weaver #2 (sailed by Tommy Weaver), and two of the newest boats, #6020/Moxie (Bill Ross) and #6022/ Rick’s Café Américain...

We at Carlyle Sailing Association (CSA) hope you will join us for the 2012 Flying Scot North American Championships (NACs) June 23 through 29 at beautiful Lake Carlyle, near Carlyle, Illinois.  CSA has hosted the NACs four times, most recently in 2004.  In addition, the club regularly hosts regional and national events; for example, the Championship of Champions was held here in 2010. The venue is one of the best in the US for small boat sailing, with plenty of paved car and boat parking, three electric jib cranes for hoisting boats into and out of the water, and a protected harbor...
