Sunday 8/11 brought us another beautiful day at Saratoga Lake, NY, with light and variable southeast winds to start the last race. The winds were fluky and spotty towards the middle of the race, then died near the end if the course. The leaders sat near the finish line waiting to see if they could get what they needed to just make it across the finish line. The wind finally came in from the southwest pushing several of the other boats right up to the leaders, but not quite in time to beat them. Saturday 8/10 -The sky was beautiful and there were brisk winds 14 - 20+ from the Southwest that gave us a real challenge on the racecourse today. 19 boats ventured out and we all managed to stay upright, although a few boats ALOMST went over. Over the course of the 4 races, the wind continued to build, but we stayed out and kept racing. There were a few people after the races saying "I have to call Harry", but mostly boats stayed intact even in the heavy air. Results to date are here ...
Continue Reading...The Deep Creek Yacht Racing Association at Deep Creek Lake in Western Maryland, held its annual Sandy Douglass Memorial Regatta on July 27 - 28, with 51 Flying Scots competing. As is the norm with Fleet 6, the local sailors hosted off-lake sailors including Larry Taggart from New Orleans, LA, Dan Goldberg from Bethel Park, PA, and Tom Dawson from Boardman, OH, and their crews. Continue Reading...The 108th consecutive annual Ephraim Regatta was a big success. Despite light and lumpy sailing conditions, the race committee managed to complete two races on each day. And everyone, racers and non-racers alike, had fun at Friday’s Regatta Welcome Party and Saturday’s Bratfest!
Ryan Malmgren and crew Stacy Rieu won the Vail Cup (winner of the first race) and the Charlie Sauter Trophy (winner of the last race). Continue Reading...We had just the opposite weather on Sunday, 8/4, with light and variable winds. Two of the 16 boats had to leave and could not return on Sunday. It was a warm, sunny day on the harbor, and we we got in 4 races, thanks to a terrific Race Committee. Thanks sp much to the Stone Horse Yacht Club for hosting! Results are here
