Carolinas

 

The Carolinas District encompasses fleets in North and South Carolina as well as a fleet in Virginia.

In North Carolina we have Carolina Sailing Club in Durham, Lake Norman in Mooresville, Lake Townsend Yacht Club in Greensboro and Moorehead City Boating Club in Moorehead City. In South Carolina, we have Lake Murray Sailing Club in Columbia and South Carolina Yacht Club on Hilton Head Island. And in Virginia we have Smith Mountain Lake in Lake Roanoke.

The District Governor is Dave Safirstein.

Top 3 Boats with past district governor, Charlie BucknerLast years Flying Scot Atlantic Coast Championship was scrubbed due to a hurricane off the coast of New Jersey.  This years weather was the perfect opposite.  High temps on Saturday of 82 degrees, winds 10 to 14, and light cloud cover made for an almost perfect day on the water.  The RC was had mulitple fleets to manage with an "inner/short" course and an "outer/long" course.  They even had the, sometimes challenging, dogleg finish line.  Saturday's starts were almost... We just wrapped up the nationally sanctioned Women's NAC (WNAC) at Madison and what a BLAST that was (see articles posted below this one for details). Beaufort Yacht Club in South Carolina is looking to increase its visibility to the Flying Scot class and they would love to form a fleet. Their multi-class Low County Regatta on June 21-23, 2024, is a great place to get some Flying Scots on the line. It wojuld be great to gete a few more Beaufort members in Flying Scots so they can truly start a fleet and hopefully grow! Read all about it, including registration information here.
