Carolinas

 

The Carolinas District encompasses fleets in North and South Carolina as well as a fleet in Virginia.

In North Carolina we have Carolina Sailing Club in Durham, Lake Norman in Mooresville, Lake Townsend Yacht Club in Greensboro and Moorehead City Boating Club in Moorehead City. In South Carolina, we have Lake Murray Sailing Club in Columbia and South Carolina Yacht Club on Hilton Head Island. And in Virginia we have Smith Mountain Lake in Lake Roanoke.

The District Governor is Dave Safirstein.

We just wrapped up the nationally sanctioned Women's NAC (WNAC) at Madison and what a BLAST that was (see articles posted below this one for details). Those cheeseheads sure know how to host a party (or two or three)....is that the proper usage of the term Cheesehead?...ANYWAY! Beaufort Yacht Club in South Carolina is looking to increase its visibility to the Flying Scot class and they would love to form a fleet. Their multi-class Low County Regatta on June 21-23, 2024, is a great place to get some Flying Scots on the line. It wojuld be great to gete a few more Beaufort members in Flying Scots so they can truly start a fleet and hopefully grow! Read all about it, including registration information here.
Registration is open for the Great 48 on May 3-4 at Lake Norman Yacht club.  You can register here and the regatta chairs have a great event planned. Anyone remember this picture from last year's Great 48? It's the U Flag start.Don't worry, PRO promises no U Flags this year!
Over 30 boats from 10 different states came to the 2023 Great 48 Regatta.  Temperatures were perfect with overnight lows in the 50s, highs in the low 70s, and a full moon as a bonus!  It was so pleasant at the dock Saturday morning we decided to stay there a little longer and let the wind fill in.  After a postponement ashore and a general recall, "most" competitors got in 1 long race in 4 to 6 mph winds.  The others got a chance to start the party early.
