Gulf
The Gulf District encompasses several fleets along and near the Gulf of Mexico from Florida's panhandle to Louisiana and one fleet in Arkansas.
Active fleets in Florida include Choctawhatchee Bay in Ft.Walton Beach, Garcon Point Spirited Sailors in Bagdad, St.Andrew Bay in Panama City and Pensacola Bay in Pensacola. In Mississippi we have Bay St.Louis and Jackson Yacht Club and in Arkansas we have Grand Maumelle Sailing Club in Little Rock. In Louisiana we have Lake Arthur in Lafayette and New Orleans and Southern Yacht Club in New Orleans.
The District Governor is Larry Taggart, who is also FSSA Parliamentarian. The Gulf District is also home to FSSA First Vice President Nancy Claypool and Secind Vice President Jim Leggette.

The Flying Scot Class sailed for three different perpetual trophies as part of Southern Yacht Club's annual Juby Wynne Memorial Regatta: The Commissioner General Trophy, the Charles L Dees Memorial Trophy, and, the Cock-of-the-Walk Trophy. Each year at the NAC, special awards are given in several categories to the participants as well as the prestigious Fleet of the Year Award, given to the fleet that has demonstrated most activity and growth in the prior year, Entries for this award are sent in by fleet captains who nominate their fleets. You would never think when you saw the bay in the morning with spotty north winds that the sea breeze would fill in just about starting time at around noon. But, sure enough, here came the south winds from the other side of the bridge to give us the best winds we had all week, 11-13 MPH with no huge shifts or really big gusts.
