Some sporty winds kept the sailors on their toes for 5 races over 2 days. Tim Porter from Lake Norman Yacht Club had 4 bullets and a 5th to take an impressive win over a talented field. Richard “Dick” Elam passed away this past Tuesday at age 92. Dick served as Scots ‘n Water editor from 1973-1982. He sailed Scots in North Carolina and Texas. Outside the class he dabbled in painting and writing books. Some of us might remember his son Kelson who sailed with his father before becoming an excellent competitive sailor in his own right.
He had donated the since retired Maxine Elam Trophy. This had been presented to the winner of the first race in the Championship Division at the NAC, and then was presented in memory of his wife.
