Yea the main came from the back of the boom to that winch and there was no mid boom block.  That is the only way that it could be reefed too.  Seems crazy to have a setup like that but I guess some people swore by it… …or at it.

I used to have the adjustable track until the whole thing came off in a blow.  It was surpising seeing it swing around on the end of the pole.  I quickly replaced it with the two rings.  Just make sure that the rivets holding the track to the mast are in good shape.  I have heard that the car can twist off of the track but I am not sure if that is true.

You can lift the board out using Glenn’s Method.  I have used the halyard as an aid.  Here is a video.
Taking the boat off of the trailer is really easy.  It will just slide off.  Phil has a pretty good method of getting the boat back on the trailer.  An alternative way to do it is to make a note of where the bow is located before you tip it over.  While the boat is on its side put the first roller, the one at the back, of the trailer where the bow was when it was upright.  As you roll the boat back up the bow will land on the first roller.  The trailer should not be connected to the car for this operation.
Be careful rolling the boat over on its side.  If you lose control LET IT GO.  I have heard stories of people grabbing shrouds and severely cutting their fingers.  You should be doing this on soft ground so the boat should roll back on its own safely.  The second warning is to make sure that your centerboard is up.  I have seen them snap off because people forgot to put them back up.

Another thing to note is that Chrysler products have tended to use very special oil in their transmission cases in the past. Be careful with the mini vans. Our old Dodge van was a dog compared to our Honda that replaced it.

We have a Honda Odyssey (3500 pnd capacity) and we got the hitch from the dealership. It was pricey but personally I like the way that the OEM trailer hitch looks over an aftermarket. The Honda dealership said that they recommend the trans cooler if you are towing anything more than a bike rack. They could have been jacking me but the cooler is good insurance.

I am a huge fan of the aluminum trailer.

The only draw back is that you need to be careful when backing it up not to jack knife it at a sharp angle. The aluminum tongue can kink much easier than it would on a steel trailer.

Interesting point. Yes the halyard would come down along the shroud. I have honestly never noticed if it interferes. I think that I might leave enough slack in the halyard that it stays out of the way but that does not seem logical either. I will have to look at it next time and get back to you.

The rings are there for a pretty good reason. When you take the chute down you double over the halyard and pull it through the ring and cleat it to a spinnaker cleat that is usually behind the shroud. Pulling it through the ring keeps the halyard out of the way until you want to raise the chute. When you pull on the halyard to raise the chute it will pull out of the block and through the ring as you yank on the halyard.

I do not think that the rules require them.

Mike I agree with you on thinking about another format for the regatta. I have attended three NACs and two came down to the wire for getting in all of the races… ..Marblehead did not really count.

There is enormous pressure on the RC to get the races done with the current set up. It would be nice if we just raced as one fleet. Other fleets have long lines to accommodate the larger fleet. It would be nice if the schedule was more relaxed to relieve some of the stress on the RC because they basically operate two regattas in only five days.

Not having the Challenger/Championship fleet would also eliminate the sand bagging accusations. Lets face it winning the challenger fleet basically proves that you are perfectly average.. ..not exactly a trophy that I want to brag about to my friends(IMHO).

If I was king of the world I would propose the following:
Monday – Practice race day (One or two races)
    Tuesday – Race 1,2,3
    Wednesday – Race 3,4,5
Thursday – Race 6+ and make up if needed.
Friday – could be a last ditch make up day or go home day.

In the end every NAC I have attended has been stellar. People need to have a little patience when it comes to the information because event organizers have more pressing issues to worry about and not everyone is a writer. In the future the web site will be expanding its features to support easier updates but that does not necessarily mean it will be done.

You are going to love the trailex trailer. The only thing that you have to be careful with is jack knifing the trailer while backing up. The tongue is susceptible to bending and kinking if you are not careful.

I recommend that you keep an extra boom. They are not too expensive and they don’t break that often but when one breaks it is a hassle and shipping can be a fortune. Buy one with a group if you can and whoever breaks theirs first buys out the rest. The problem is that you may never use it but it is still good insurance.

I agree with the previous post. In general if it is a two day regatta go for four races on Saturday and two on Sunday. I like to have a throw out if we hit six races.

If it is a one day regatta, depending on your venue and what you want to do, you could absolutely do six races in one day. At our fall regatta we did six races in four hours. It was so cold that people could not take anything longer.

Never have just one race on the second day. People do not like to return for just one race if they live close enough to drive but not close enough to make the drive convenient.

    Good Luck!

You can also use a Frisbee with a hole in it where the main is connected to the tiller to block the main sheet from catching on the head.
