The mainsheet swivel may be “bolted” to the the centerboard cap.  It sounds like that the screw is turning with the locking nut on the underside of the cap.  On one of my Scots I’ve had that was the case.  I don’t know of any way to loosen it other than taking the cap off the trunk.  I am in the process of fixing our fleet Scot (4000 series) and need to replace the cap so I can confirm that for you in the next few days.  Will post my findings.

You could still use the wooden spinnaker pole.  The downhaul line should connect to the topping lift.  Thus avoid the need to add anything to the pole.  Then take the stainless steel hook and use it on the topping lift.  When you put your pole up, the one end is for the sheet/guy and the other for the eye on the mast,  be sure to attach the topping lift to the center ring before you attach the pole to the eye on the mast.  If it were not winter, I shoot a photo for you.

Deb, There are several things that could be done.  One is to change the rigging to rope halyards.  Second, install a waco 360 for the centerboard pennat. Third, increase the purchase on the mainsheet, and lastly, consider going to 2:1 on the jib sheets.  All of these items are easy to do and are available through FS Inc.  Good Luck!

Another item to check.  Make sure your rudder blade is down. If it is not all the way down, you will certainly get more weather helm. There are two schools of thought on the rudder angle, the factory setting and the other a vertical edge, instead of the slight angle as set from the factory.  I sailed with both and actually prefer the factory.  Reason being you will feel weather helm sooner than the vertical edge.  Again, boat balance, sail trim all play into the weather helm.  I find it hard to believe that moving the main sheet block on the rudder back will actually help.  Just my 2 cents!

Try easing the main as discussed and see how that works.  As for the jib, both jib telltales should be straight back.  As the boat picks up speed, start to slowly head to wind to just lift the windward telltale.  Turn slightly to windward or leeward as needed to keep them streaming and allowing the windward one to just start lifting.  Good luck!

Try easing off the main, and see if that helps.  Check the rake too.

Thanks Phil!  Great venue and I am going to plan on getting there.  Missed out this year due to unforseen issues!

Richard, if you are in an area where there is a FS fleet, go and see them.  They are more than likely help you out.  If not, get in touch with FS Inc.  and they will give you some guidance.  The FS class is known for helping out!

I would suggest that you contact the Flying Scot factory directly.  They are a excellent source of information and can help you out.

I would check the drain hose from the seats to the rear of the boat.  It’s possible water is entering through the drain on the stern if the hose is off the pipe.

We had a sailor at CPYC race his boat all last summer with the Intensity Sails. Perhaps seeing my post he’ll comment on them. In my opinion, they’re great for cruising or club racing. I’m not sure how they do on a higher scale of racing. Marvin care to comment???

I have the galvanized Long Trailer and its it perfect for the Scot if you prefer the steel over the aluminum. Launching and hauling is pretty simple and the height is not too high and it is low enough to climb in without a step ladder. This trailer has exceeded my expectations after having experience with the old Sterling trailer I had for years.

The bow bag is required for those who plan to race sanctioned events such as the mw’s, nac’s and districts.

It was a great time! It was mine and my son’s first time to Lake Norman. Like Chris, I had a long road trip. upon arrival we were well received. Southern hospitality is top notch! Thanks again!
