Anyone in the northern states use shrink wrap for winter storage? Do you use the mast for wrap support? Any issues that I should know?
I’ve just lost my $250 a year inside storage after 25 years. Need a new plan.Just wondering if anyone has actually had a main cut down to one reef size or smaller. I single hand my Scot 100% of the time and am finding, either because of climate change or my age, that I sail with a reef in almost all of the time. I’m thinking about cutting the sail down to save that extra reef rigging every sail. What has your experience been?
For those suggesting a second reef, how far up from the first do you place it?
Check out the Palm at the Flying Scot Inc Store. This is a method that works well for keeping the main away from the corners, the rudder, and even an outboard left in place. You can also find several posts here on the forum if you look through older posts that have a complete description of the Palm.
You can also get a short extension cable for where the main connects to the rudder which is pulled forward with a bungee that runs along the tiller. Again, supplied by FS Inc.

To your question: Rolling the sail is best for the sail. You can find older posts here on the forum that describe how to do that. I sail solo all the time and find any way of dealing with the main a chore. I roll it the best I can alone and sail tie it to the boom. Then cover it all with a tent mooring cover. If you have a crew to help it should happen easily.

My anchor light is a battery powered (self contained) , 4 AA’s, that was purchased as a clamp-on stern light. I have addapted it with lugs to be hoisted up the mast by the main halyard. It extends above the mast head by several inches. It also has a photo electric switch so that it comes on at dark etc. I will be glad to send pics if anyone is interested.
