Foam under my seats had degraded. I replaced with 2-in closed cell foam board (Lowes/HomeDepot) cut to fit. I mounted it with nylon webbing straps adjustable buckles. This both saved the trouble of flipping the boat to install the glass, allowing me to get a snug fit; and it makes the foam removable for when I need to get access behind the seats (as when I changed out the spinnaker blocks; installed a spinnaker turtle; removed and refinished backing block for jib block, etc.)

No hoists in western PA Ogil, except maybe at Erie. At Yellow Creek I sometimes launch from beach/grass, no ramp. Also taking it to Cape Cod next month where ramp access is tide contingent, so willing to do some work if it will pay off.

So the forward blade on my rudder is seven inches off the transom, and 6 inches off a line parallel to the forward edge of the rudder cheek.

Jim,  no ratchet blocks on the boat.  I’ll try it as you suggest if fall weather allows then see what modifications to do for spring.

That’s really helpful.  Do you have the bitter end coming out of the block high (at the boom end) or low (by the tiller)?
