I would try to remove the bolt and see if it is a wood screw . On my boat it is all wood screws, my boat is a 64 so it has seen alot of use mine were passed stripped the whole thing pulled out into my hand . If you have had your trunk cap off before ,then I would consider doing that again . If you never had it off you might want to leave it in place ,mine was put on with brass screws and several broke off. So how I fixed mine was I drilled 3/8 holes into the fiberglass trunk then I used 5 min epoxy and put wooden dowls into the holes,then after harden drilled pilot holes and refasten. If you decide not to remove cap I would remove the swivel cleat and drill 1/4 inch and use same process ,3/8 will be to big and would show. With this process if you remove the cap at a later date you will need to drill out your dowels .

I had never heard of this boat till I watched some of these ,after watching a few of these videos , I was soon hooked.
In are area we have a yacht club and every year we have an event called taste of sail. witch involes people of all ages . What I do is even out the group, like 2 or 3 on each side. I don’t use the boom vang at all,we are just going for a sail ,some for the first time. This gives me more room . I let the boat have some heal . I switch side to side to help keep boat leval. I did take one of are members out ,she was in her 70s , her and her husband had owned a scot years ago. so the day we went out she didn’t want me to hold back ,she said she liked to ride the rail, but due to her age she was unable to cross back n forth so she sat on the center board cap ,so again not useing the boom vang gave her room to sit and as we healed the boat up she could reach and hold on to the seat for balance . So we rode the rail as she requested.
The 17 ft is from the hitch to the end of the trailer , Inbetween the fenders is 54 inches outside the fenders is 65 inches . over all the boat is wider then the trailer. http://www.flickr.com/photos/47922809@N03/sets/72157626681944005/ here is the before pictures and during the resteration ,my boat is now a differant color the gel coat in those pictures never harden ( hardner was out of date, supplier covered all the material) ,I had to re- do the whole boat again ,didn’t re-take all the pictures. My trailer frame is 17 feet x 4 feet And of course the wheels and fenders stick out much farther. I think you could make this work. There are a few things to think about . Haveing a slightly shorter trailer helps in launching . You can launch in very shallow water . I have launched mine in my yard. Having a long trailer could give you more tounge weight since there will be less boat hanging over the rear side of the wheels. You will want to make sure you have center wheels , Most of the boats weight should be carried on the center wheels . My boat also has carpeted bunkers the bunkers well help keep your boat level and help to carry some of the weight. My boat also has two guied rollers on the back ,helps keep boat centered to the trailer for loading and launching. I think yo could use rollers instead of bunkers, but if you do use several sets to help carry some of the hulls weight. I am no expert but hope this helps. In the parking lot I use a two step ladder to enter and exit boat during setup.
I think it was 72 they made the vin codes standerized and reqierd to be printed on the boat . The vin code also had to have so many caracters as well .
before this time there were no rules so a hull number was just fine . The title would be his last hope since he said he can find no numbers anywhere , Since he said it is an 800 number boat, the sails would be over 40 years of age ,Its possible the original owner kept putting the hull number on his sails every time he replaced them, Then again the P.O. owner could have bought used sails. My boat sat outside its entire life uncovered and after 45 years you would not even know it had a number on the cap ,you had to have it in the right light to even see it, and these things were pressed or hammerd in.When making furniture I always glue smaller pieces together to prevent cupping , so I treated this the same , up to 6-8 inch I would do solid ,but over that I would cut even if I had a 12 inch board in front of me. I used poly urethane glue since it is out side . If you match the grain so it looks the same , I would even have a hard time finding the seam on mine. The glue joint will be stronger then the wood it self . I can send you a picture of mine if you would like.
In the gallery on the third page is some pictures of mine, you can see the yoke in the back of my boat , and on the front I made my own support to fit inside of the stanchion. another reason to use this over cushions , is the deck is very slippery , and the second reason is getting the mast up over the tow vehicle. Check every craigslist for which you are willing to travel ,I always type in flying scot and flyingscot people miss spell all the time and you may miss one from there mistake . There was a few in the Wis. area but you may find one closer.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/47922809@N03/sets/72157626681944005/ The trailers are shallow launch trailers so I simply launced it in the yard , I did not have hooked up to the car. Then with pads on two 4x4s 3 of us rolled it up on one side while one person on the otherside, We brought it up to the balance point, then 3 went to the other side then lowered it to the ground. Then I transfered it onto dollys ,to move boat around while working on it. I was thinking of doing this on the trailer but I know now it would have been to high. . You can make up some bunks to set your boat on as well. For you I installed my foam blocks last after boat was all done . I tapped up the straps and wedged the foam then fiberglassed in two seperate applications It may not be picture perfect but it worked.
