Gator Challenge in Jacksonville Dec 1-2

The first weekend in December (Saturday Dec 1 and Sunday Dec 2) may be too cold for sailing up north (as in Carolina), but weather can be perfect for Scot sailing on the St. John’s River (or sometimes a bit cooler). The Gator Bowl Regatta is both a stop on the Florida District circuit (Charlie Fowler’s legacy) and the Gator Challenge. Close to twenty boats from Jacksonville and the rest of Florida District sail each year.
The Gator Challenge adds a team trophy to the mix for Flying Scots. The Florida District takes on all comers. The Wally Gator trophy (a trophy that could only be from Florida—an alligator head mounted on wood) is awarded to the district with the top three boats for the regatta. Carolina District sailors took the trophy home a few times, but it’s recently stayed in Florida. Come down and challenge Florida sailors again—Fred Strammer has gone off to college, so we’ve lost our secret weapon.

In case we need an official challenge; The Florida District hereby challenges all Flying Scot Districts (especially the Carolina District) to compete for the coveted Wally Gator Trophy.

It is true we have lost Fred to college but we will do our best. Come on down and join the fun, the hotels are reasonable, the weather is usually good and Jacksonville is so far north its almost in the Carolina District.
