The 2026 Flying Scot Carolinas District Championship will be held on June 6-7 at the Lake Townsend Yacht Club, located a few miles northeast of Greensboro NC. The event falls nicely between the May 2-3 Great 48 at Lake Norman and the June 19-21 Governor’s Cup hosted by the Carolina Sailing Club. 

This event is also the 49th Annual Mayor’s Cup Regatta, so there will be other classes out on the water with us. Typically the Mayor’s Cup attracts 30-40 boats, including a large Flying Scot class. The Mayor’s Cup trophy, which honors the City of Greensboro and its years of support of sailing in the Piedmont, is awarded to the winner of the one design class with the highest number of boats that start in at least one race, and we want to make sure the Flying Scot class takes the trophy this year!

If you have never been to Lake Townsend, you will be pleased to know that we share the lake only with small fishing boats and kayakers. This means no motorboat chop to deal with–we typically have the lake all to ourselves. There is ample parking for boats in the gated Lake Townsend Marina parking lot. 

There is no clubhouse at the marina; instead the LTYC throws a great party at the pavilion next to the marina parking lot. There is ample lodging in nearby Greensboro, and members of the local Flying Scot fleet are happy to host visitors in their homes as well.
