2016 Atlantic Coast Championship and Greater NY District Championship
Story is by Thom Lee and Marc Gordon The Monmouth Boat Club hosted the 2016 Flying Scot Atlantic Coast Championships and Greater New York District Championships on Sept 16-18th and provided a great event for all involved. The regatta was held in Sandy Hook Bay, NJ which provided for mile long legs. Sailing conditions were perfect with sun and winds of 15 to 20 knots on the first day and 8 to 15 on the second day. 2016 Massapoag Yacht Club 67th Annual Regatta – Sharon, MA
We had another wonderful time at the 67th Annual Massapoag Yacht Club Regatta, with 57 boats participating. There were 16 Flying Scots – winners John and Connie Eckart (pictured here), 6 Day Sailers – winners Mike McCaffrey and Suzanne Boohar, 4 Comets – winners Talbott and Carol Lee Ingram, 9 RS Aeros – winner Marc Jacobi, and 22 Sunfish – winner Andy David! What an amazing sight on the water ! The PRO Gary Werden and crew did a good job of keeping fleets separated using Trapezoid courses. 2016 Pacific Districts – Sequim Bay Yacht Club, WA
Full results are here. When you think of great sports dynasties the Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls, Pittsburg Steelers, and New York Yankees immediately come to mind. In the Flying Scot Pacific District, Brian Tyrell has had his own dynasty winning the last 8 Pacific District titles. This year that streak finally ended when Dale Dunning and Eric Taylor, aboard 4372 Trouble Maker, captured the title in a hard fought and dramatic battle that wasn’t decided until the eighth and final race. 2016 Scots on the Rocks – Lake Murray Sailing Club – Chapin, SC
Fourteen hardy competitors braved Hermine’s stormy prospects to ultimately enjoy sunny skies, cool temperatures, and enough breeze to sail 5 races over our annual labor day weekend Scots on the Rocks regatta. Although Saturday’s racing was initially postponed for about 45 minutes of calm, a southerly breeze filled in nicely and the fleet was off at about 1:45 pm. With two great races in the bag, the Race Committee shortened the course to squeak in race 3 on rapidly lowering pressure backing from the east. Robert and Nina Cummings from Dallas dominated Day 1 racing with 1-1-3 finishes for 5 points.… Read more

2016 Sandy Douglass Memorial Regatta – Deep Creek, MD
Skippers Meeting – story by Doc Templeton The 22nd Annual Sandy Douglass Memorial Regatta was held at Deep Creek Lake in Deer Park, Maryland on July 30 and 31. Deer Park is the home of Flying Scot, Incorporated and, nearby, the two yacht clubs that make up the Deep Creek Yacht Racing Association: Deep Creek Lake Sailing Association (DCLSA) and Deep Creek Yacht Club, Inc. (DCYC). This memorial regatta is an annual tribute to Sandy Douglass, the designer and first builder of the Flying Scot.
