FSSA Sailor Receives Janet Jones Trophy at Southern Yacht Club
The Janet Jones Lorber Trophy- Presented in 1949 by commodore Jones and was rededicated as a memorial to his daughter in 1981 is awarded annually to the best female skipper of the year. This year’s recipient is Nancy Claypool. Nancy won the Flying Scot Women’s National Championship. She has served on SYC’s membership Development and Race Committees and also as Chair of Ladies on the Lake. Read more

Sad News for the Flying Scot Community – Debbie Cycotte
Our FSSA Historian Emeritus and past Capital District Governor, Debbie Cycotte, passed away on 1/10/2025. Debbie was dedicated to Flying Scot sailing for many years and worked tirelessly to have Sandy Douglass entered into the Sailing Hall of Fame. Flying Scots Support Sarasota Sailing Squadron
From Jim Crabtree: Many of our Flying Scot members have had the pleasure of participating in Midwinters or other regattas at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron over the years. We have fond memories of members bringing out homemade hot appetizers for the welcome parties. As many are aware, SSS suffered significant damage from both Hurricanes Helene and Hurricane Milton. While the membership, including the local Flying Scot Fleet 36, is actively involved in the clean-up and recovery, including three who serve on the Board of Directors, docks are not insurable assets.
