I just removed the numbers from the white hull of a 44 year old Scot.  Of course, the area behind the letters is lighter than the surrounding area.  How do I remove that or do I just apply the new letters and let the newly exposed area fade?

Hello:  Depending on the condition of your hull coating you might use rubbing compound to buff this area out then wax it again. I and in the process of compounding my boat due to chalking when I purchased it and the compound along with a buffer has removed the old number shadowing on my boat. I wish I only had to do the area where the numbers are…. : (
