Lessons Learned from the 2015 ACC

Lessons from the ACCs 2015 At the Atlantic Coast Championship on the Neuse River in September a fleet of 23 Scots was hit by a microburst with winds going from 12 – 15 knots to 50 – 60 knots in less than a minute and staying  high for 10 + minutes.   Seas quickly built to 3+ feet.  The teams sailing in this championship were well qualified skippers and crews, and yet 20 capsized.  There was extensive property damage including 8 -9 damaged mast, some of which are still on the bottom.  We were fortunate indeed that no one was… Read more

All fleets completed 4 races on Saturday and many finishes had multiple boats coming across the line seconds apart. On Sunday the winds were heavy 14-20mph with gusts up to 30 and (of course) shifty. 2015 Scot-A-Hootchee – Lake Lanier Sailing Club, GA

File photo from CLSA website Lots of Boats, Plenty of Wind by Deb Aronson We had another wildly successful (if I do say so myself) Glow in the Dark this past weekend. With 26 boats registered, we beat our all time record by one boat, and everyone came ready to have a good time. This year we had mostly boats from our district, except for Mark and Maria Benner, who came from Moraine Sailing Club (outside Pittsburgh), Bruce and Lynn Kitchen from Cowan Lake (Ohio), and Carrie and Tyler Andrews, who came from Deep Creek in western Maryland. We also… Read more
