The 2016 Flying Scot North American Championships are just a few weeks away, July 16-21, but don;t worry, there’s still time to sign up! There’s not a much more beautiful place to sail than Newport, Rhode Island and we are fortunate to be holding our regatta there. We’ll have a chalk talk sponsored by North Sails every day after racing and we’ll have some great dinners together. There are still some rooms avaialble at reasonable prices at hotels within a few minutes of Sail Newport – look under lodging in the NAC page here. To sign up for the… Read more

2016 Egyptian Cup Regatta at Carlyle Sailing Association, IL
Story by Linda Vitt, pictures byJeannette Beier and Rachel Bowling. Full results are here. Things heated up this weekend at Carlyle Sailing Association with the Egyptian Cup Regatta. It was no surprise that the parking lot seemed to melt under your feet and the downwind runs reminded you of a rotisserie oven. The only relief was a wonderful cooling tent set up on the asphalt desert by our wonderful Fleet 83 Captain Bronson Bowling and the welcome AC in the Observation/Club house building which gave us each a break from the heat. The winds were variable in the 5-8 range and… Read more

Dan Vought Wins His Third Full Moon Regatta Title
Story and Photos by Art Petrosemolo. Full results are here. Dan Vought and Ted Duffy have sailed together for years. They won the Monmouth Boat Club Flying Scot Full Moon Regatta in 2011 and both skipper and crew sail multiple one-design boats. So it was no surprise on Saturday (June 11) in building winds – with gusts in the 20 mph range – that the pair guided their boat cleanly to three wins to take top honors in the Full Moon’s 25th anniversary renewal. Many of the fleet of competitors made trips to the dock for repairs of booms,… Read more

This year the BYC Regatta was held on June 18-19, 2016. 16 Flying Scots attended, along with 21 other boats from other classes. 2016 Wife Husband Championships at Fishing Bay – All Done!
Saturday night was a wonderful chicken dinner prepared by the Commodore and crew. Lots of stories were traded and lots of fun! We followed that up with a raffle that masqueraded as a baby shower for the Flying Scot Royalty, Carrie and Tyler Andrews! What a difference a day makes! We went from 5-6 MPH to 15-17 MPH winds between yesterday and today. The good news is that we raced right outside the club so we did not have far to go either to or from the race course. We had 3 W-L 5 races and every team was… Read more

Amongst the 23 Championship and 9 Challenger boats is the beauty pictured above, MandM sail #6099. This Taylor-made boat was delivered to the regatta by Flying Scot, Inc., just in time for Mark and Michele to put it together and put it in the water.
