2013 Chaos Cup at Quannapowitt YC in Wakefield, MA
From Diane Kampf – Greg and I had the pleasure of participating in the 6th Annual Flying Scot Chaos Cup regatta at Quannapowitt Yacht Club in Wakefield, MA, on Saturday, October 19. the Chaos Cup has a long history at QYC, but most recently has become a Flying Scot regatta. QYC has a long history as well, being the oldest inland Yacht Club in the country having been founded in 1884! 2013 Sail for the Grail, Moraine Sailing Club, Portersville, PA
It would seem the grail of Fleet 80’s Sail for the Grail Regatta hosted by Moraine Sailing Club on Saturday Sept. 21st would overflow from the persistent rain that fell that day, but not the case. The good spirits of those on 6 MSC boats and 11 from out of town displaced that rain and filled the grail with fun, competition, and camaraderie. Every person on a Flying Scot and on the Race Committee should commend themselves for stepping out of their comfort zone and facing the elements as the schedule was maintained and three races completed. Update on the Grand Annual Regatta – Cave Run Lake, KY
You might not think that the government shutdown could affect our sailing events, but it actually can, and it did. The Grand Annual Regatta was scheduled to be held at Cave Run Lake, a Corps of Engineers lake in Daniel Boone National Park in Kentucky, the weekend of 10/6-10/7/2013. However, due to The US government’s partial shutdown the lake was closed! Racing was cancelled, but not the party! They still held a Not-a-Regatta Pig Roast in Lexington. That’s the spirit! Read more

2013 Punzi Memoral Regatta at Candlewood YC, New Fairfield, CT – Day 2
Roger Punzi, in whose honor this regatta is held, would be thrilled to see the number of boats that came to this regatta! He was an avid Flying Scot sailor who supported the fleet for many years. Day 2 on Sunday 10/6 brought pouring rain and 10-12 knot winds, 4 guest boats we’re still at the regatta, but two of those decided not to brave the elements. 2013 Punzi Memoral Regatta at Candlewood YC, New Fairfield, CT – Day 1
Well, we didn’t get any wind on Saturday, 10/5 at Candlewood, but we had pirates! I guess they thought they could scare everyone out on the race course in case pure skill was not enough! Argh I say! While we did not race, we had a really great time visitng with old and new friends. There were 20 boats from 3 states registered and ready to go if the predicted wind actually materialized. Sailing Your Flying Scot by Moonlight
Have you ever sailed your Flying Scot in the moonlight? It is an extraordinary experience to be on your boat at night with just the moonlight and Mother Nature to guide you. Our club, Massapoag Yacht Club in Sharon, MA, organizes two of these events a year, and although it is always a blast being out there with others, it does not need to be an organized or group event.
