This prestigious award is presented to an outstanding Flying Scot® fleet each year at the Annual Meeting during the NAC. Last year’s recipient was Fleet 48 from Lake Norman Yacht Club. 2014 Grits ‘n Haggis Regatta – Keowee Sailing Club, Seneca, SC
Scots move to the line at the Grits ‘n Haggis regatta Sandy Eustis leads the fleet Busy at the leeward mark Spinnakers full Lake Keowee is about 8 miles west of Clemson, SC at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. For 6 years now, Fleet 193 has hosted this regatta on the 3rd weekend in May. It is usually temperatures in the mid 80’s by now, but this weekend was different. FLYING SCOT TRIFECTA 2014
Once again wind forecasts were incorrect. All of the “best” websites for forecasting winds on Lake Pontchartrain were wrong. All had predicted light southerly’s the entire Memorial Day weekend of the Gulf District Trifecta. And all weekend we wound up with 8-12 knot northerlies for the 5 race series. But at least there was no rain! On Memorial Day weekend of 2014 Flying Scot Fleet 96 and Southern Yacht Club in New Orleans hosted the first Gulf District Trifecta. Man Overboard Story on Scuttlebutt by Captain Jack McClurkin
This Scuttlebutt entry by one of our own Flying Scot sailors in the Midwest is a must read for all of us sailing in areas where the water stays cold into the early summer. Captain Jack holds a USCG Master’s license and has been sailing for 50 years. 2014 Great 48 Regatta at Lake Norman Yacht Club, Mooresville, NC – Final results
The final results are avaialble, and the top 5 in a fleet of 38 boats were Paul Abdullah from Florida Yacht Club, Rob Whittemore from Fishing Bay, Chuck Gise from Lake Norman, Ben Williams from Clinton Lake, and Sean O’Donnell from NC Community Sailing.
