I am looking for an active community of FS owners who share their experiences with maintaining, repairing and ultimately sailing an FS.
I have a lot of experience with the proper re-storing, repairing and maintainance of an FS, as well as other boats. When I can’t figure something out on my own or want a second opinion, I want to be able to reach out to people who can help.
I have a question about getting a slight bend out of the sail track on a mast – or boom.
Recently, I have done some VERY extensive fiberglass repair on my boat after being laid up for many years ( marriage, home, kids a motor boat, etc.. ). I had completely resto’d her to new before this repair( she’s hull # 877 ) and just a few years later she was mauled in a squall – the entire starboard side, hull and deck had huge gaping voids from being bashed against a dock, not to mention shreded main, and jib, bent mast, submermed outboard – etc.
I have repaired her and she is ready for the water.
There are a few odds ‘n ends that I need to take care of before she gets wet again after (9) years ! One is the slight kink in the mast sail track…

I would suggest calling Harry, the FS builder. They’ve always been extremely helpful. They’ve done many, many different kinds of repairs over the years and are likely to have an answer for you.

FS 1573I would second the comment about calling Harry. This forum also has a lot of answers that can be found by using the search function. I have also noticed that the forum tends to be more active when we all are doing more computer time and sailing,like winter.
Most of the repair questions can be found already answered. To a bent track the answer above sounds reasonable. Aluminum,bent and rebent is never quite as strong,but it sounds like this is just closed a bit and needs to be spread.
If the mast or boom is bent or kinked it’s toast.

I speak to Harry whenever I have a real technical question that relates directly to parts unique to a FS. Back in the day, it was nice to have Erik around too. For example, I called Harry about replacing the old foam under the seats with that blue, Dow, dock foam. I wanted to make sure it would not change class rules. It will not.
The mast: There is a slight bend as if the mast hit a soft object and just pushed the track in a bit. I will try some easy finesse. The track needs to be opened ‘a smidge’ and only a length of 1/2″.
I think this site is a good resource and can be THE RESOURCE for all FS owners – around the world. Nothing beats the input of someone who has ‘ been there and done that…’
