The lovely town of Rockport, MA, was the scene of the 2026 Wife-Husband Championship. It is a great coastal New England Town with so many cute shops and restaurants, it is hard not to stop in each one. Sandy Bay Yacht Club wharf is right off the downtown area and there are lots of Inns and B&Bs in the area. As we arrived on Friday, Regatta Chairperson Dave Archiblad and crew managed the logistics of getting the boats into the water and trailers elsewhere for the weekend. Later in the evening was the welcome party where we caught up with old friends and made new friends. We all looked forward to some fun racing, if Mother Nature would cooperate.
Saturday was forecast to be moderate air but building into the afternoon. PRO Charlie Clark asked us all to be on time and be ready to start the next race as each race ended to try and get as much racing in before it got too sporty. Most boats went out and several went back in as the wind built to 14-15. First race was heavy air, the 2nd was moderate air and the 3rd was moderate air. All in all. a great day on the water and a great job by the Race Committee.
Then the lobster and chicken dinner was fabulous, the company was great, and we all went back to our abodes for a good night’s sleep.
Sunday the wind was above our guidelines, with the expectation it would moderate by 2PM, so there was no time to run any more races before the time limit. We all helped each other pack up and get boats moved before the awards and lunch. The Championship Division winners, and winners of the Century Award, were John and Connie Eckart. Challenger Winners were Ken Sherwood and Dawn Smith-Sherwood. The best first time entry was Richard and Ellen Reynolds. Congratulations to all the winners!
