The Flying Scot Space Coast Regatta delivered a full weekend of shifty, high-stakes racing on the Banana River, with Saturday’s 8–14 knot northeast breeze and 30–40 degree oscillations turning every leg into a guessing game. Boats climbed and fell through the fleet quickly, and no team managed to win more than one race, which kept the leaderboard packed and the racing tight. Taylor’s team fought through early breakdowns and still opened with a strong 1-3, showing just how competitive the fleet was from the first start.
By the end of Saturday, the top three were David/Lia in first, David/Joel in second, and Jim/Cheryl in third. That set up a final-day showdown with very little separating the front-runners, and the entire fleet knew Sunday would decide everything.
Sunday brought steadier east winds at 15–18 knots, with right-side pressure paying well in the first race and fast downwind rides adding a little adrenaline to every leg. The semi-planing conditions made for great sailing, though the motorboat chop from the air show added plenty of extra chaos. The regatta ultimately came down to Ames/Kumar and Rink/Blade in the final race, but Rink’s lost mainsheet forced a retirement and ended the last-race drama in heartbreaking fashion.
When the points were tallied, the top three overall were David & Lia in first, Jim & Cheryl in second, Richard & Tim in third. It was the kind of weekend that had everything: shifting winds, close boat-on-boat racing, gear failures, comeback drives, and a final result that stayed in doubt until the last race.
