75 boats registered. 8 great races over 3 days. Outstanding hosts. Outstanding Race Committee. Regatta Chair Jennifer Ikeda and PRO Keven Eiber and teams did everything they could to make it all look effortless, but of course we know better. It was such a blast! The welcome team made sure we knew what to do with the boat and parking and the Registration desk made checking in a breeze. Thursday’s welcome party had great hors d’oeuvres and libations. But the best part was talking to everyone we had not seen in a while. Saturday’s Dinner was a feast with lots of leftovers used for lunch on Sunday.
Each day, boats on the ramp side were launched by club tractors and the rest used the hoist on the other side of the club. We were treated to words of wisdom – what to look for and what to do better – from Brian Hayes from North Sails and Greg Fisher from Evolution Sails. And on the water, Mother Nature obliged all 3 days, with one race before the sea breeze and the rest after the sea breeze came in. The Race Committee did an awesome job of getting off all 8 4-leg W-L races.
Ron Pletch presented the Charlie Fowler award for the best 3 finishes by a fleet. This went to Fleet 23 at Corinthian Sailing Club members Robert and Nina Cummings, Tom and Melissa Miller and Paul Miller and Don Kern. Really awesome – but even more awesome was that Fleet 23 had 9 teams that came from Dallas, TX, to Sarasota, FL for this event. Woohoo!
Every year, the skippers vote for the person who will be awarded the Allen Douglas award for sportsmanship, awarded this year to Brian Hayes!
The regatta awards were announced by President Nina Cummings and handed out by First Vice President Bruce Kitchen and Regatta Chair Jennifer Ikeda. Top 5 in Challenger were (1) Carol Sandke and Joel Blade from Lake Norman Yacht Club in Mooresville, NC, (2) Peter and Tyler Egeli from St. Mary’s River Yacht Club in Maryland , (3) John Cooke and Robin Hoffman from Cedar Point Yacht Club in Westport, CT, (4) Bill Vogler and Paul Hinze from Carlyle Sailing Association in Carlyle, Il, and (5) Greg and Diane Kampf and Dory from Massapoag Yacht Club in Sharon, MA. Top 5 in Championship were (1) David Ames and PJ Buhler from Ronin (2) our awesome builders Tyler and Carrie Andrews from Deep Creek Lake, MD, (3) Dave Chapin and Dave Huebert from Lake Eustis Sailing Club in Eustis, FL, (4) John Kreidler and Joe Brake from Western Carolina Sailing Club in SC and (5) Kirk Reynolds and Kira Munger from Skaneateles Sailing Club in NY.
