2013 Pacific Districts

2013 Pacific District Winenrs

A wide range of Flying Scot build dates were evident by observing the competitors sail numbers where numbers ranged from #25 to #5472.  A total of eleven Flying Scots from Richland Washington Fleet 186 and Seattle Washington Fleet 100 competed in the two day event sailed off shore of Fort Warden State Park on the Puget Sound.  This location continues to be popular with past and present fleet members.

On Saturday, after a delayed morning race start, winds filled in quickly from the NW and built to 15 mph with gusts to 18 mph.  Three races were sailed before racing was called off due to continuing building wind velocity.  All courses were windward-leeward from a location just off the beach at Point Wilson Light to the leeward Race Committee mark, and the more distant Red Bell #2 near Port Hudson at the north end of the town of Port Townsend.  Two of the three races were sailed twice around.

2013 27th Annual Saratoga Invitational - Day 2

Sunday 8/11 brought us another beautiful day at Saratoga Lake, NY, with light and variable southeast winds to start the last race. The winds were fluky and spotty towards the middle of the race, then died near the end if the course. The leaders sat near the finish line waiting to see if they could get what they needed to just make it across the finish line. The wind finally came in from the southwest pushing several of the other boats right up to the leaders, but not quite in time to beat them. Several of the boats behind changed places with each other as the wind got to them at different times.

Trophies were awarded to the top 5

1 Ryan Malmgren & Stacey Rieu - Ephraim YC

2 Jay & Brian McNeff - Massapoag YC

3 Bernie Zabek & Bill Metz - Saratoga Lake SC

4 Jim Cavanagh & John Houstle

5 Greg & Diane Kampf

Thanks to regatta chairs Misha and Olga Gutin and crew - always a fun time! Full results are here

2013 27th Annual Saratoga Invitational - Day 1

Saturday 8/10 -The sky was beautiful and there were brisk winds 14 - 20+ from the Southwest that gave us a real challenge on the racecourse today. 19 boats ventured out and we all managed to stay upright, although a few boats ALOMST went over. Over the course of the 4 races, the wind continued to build, but we stayed out and kept racing. There were a few people after the races saying "I have to call Harry", but mostly boats stayed intact even in the heavy air. Results to date are here
