Wire Rigging - Standing and Running

Thank you for the helpful replies to my 'Vibrations' question. What is the life expectancy of the wire riggings? I have replaced various pins as I spot wear and tear but how do I know when wire rigging is near the end of its ability to carry loads safely? Does the bow toggle plate need any inspection or maintenance?

I would also like to know (from Flying Scot) what the estimated life span of standing wire rigging is as mine is at least twenty, and possibly forty, years old. I check it each time I take the mast down in the fall and before I put it up in the spring but I wonder if a visual check is sufficient.

I would not suggest that you replace the wire rigging until you see broken strands in the wire. This usually happens at the swaged ends first, so check the wire at each end whenever the mast is down. We still have the original wire on FS #1 and it seems fine.
