Mast Rake Measurement

I have found it difficult to get an accurate aft rake measurement. I cannot determine if I have the tape measure hoisted to the proper point. Has anyone measured the distance between the top of the mast and the top of the gooseneck track with the tape hoisted to the proper point? Please advise.

I welcome anyone to correct me if I'm wrong, but in the few time

I welcome anyone to correct me if I'm wrong, but in the few times people more knowledgeable than we are (including Mr. Harry C himself) have helped us check our mast rake, the tape measure was simply fastened using the main halyard shackle. It was then hoisted all the way to the sheave at the top. The measurement was taken back to the transom edge. We never measured to the gooseneck track, so I can't help there. Its difficult to explain.

Its difficult to explain. If you hoist the halyard all the way until it stops the shackle is sticking up and that is too high. When measuring rake, I raise the halyard with measuring tape attached until it stops(and is sticking up) and then lower it just to the point where the halyard is coming off the sheave at a clean angle toward the transom.
