Come race on Lake Erie! Grand River Sailing Club is hosting its annual regatta August 22-24, 2014.  Located in   Grand River / Fairport Harbor, Ohio on Lake Erie, the annual regatta includes keel boats and dinghy's racing on seperate courses. I have been crewing on a "big boat" the past couple of years and have sailed in the regatta the last 2 years,
on my Scot FS 3777 "Sara's Smile", along with a great contigent of Scots from Berlin Yacht Club. Visit the web site, www.grsc.net to view more about the club. I'll post information as it becomes available.

Well the gourmet food is lined up and the bands for Friday, Saturday and Sunday are being recruited. I also want to mention the proceeds from the regatta benefit the Cleveland sight center sailing program.
I'd like to attach a few photo's from last year so if anyone can tell me how it would be greatly appreciated.

Dear GRSC Members and Friends,

Grand River Sailing Club's 2014 Annual Regatta takes place Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 22-24. This regatta is special because it's our 30th.  We've got so much in store - we hope you will join us!  This communique gives some basic info. Additional information is posted at www.grsc.net and details will be updated on our Facebook page. Feel free to contact me at hjm70@sbcglobal.net with specific questions about the race or becoming a sponsor or volunteer.

A Benefit for the Cleveland Sight Center Sailing Program
Once again, a portion of regatta proceeds go to benefit the sailors of the Cleveland Sight Center's Active Lifestyles program. These guys and gals have a wonderful time on Lake Erie, gaining a range of learning experiences and personal satisfaction. Teams go out most days of the week on the Sight Center's Pearson boats. Contributions from GRSC's last two regattas have helped to keep these boats ship-shape with new sails and rigging. Please help us continue to support this wonderful program by becoming a sponsor or donating a raffle item, even your time! Or, just come out to enjoy the weekend festivities! Read about the Sight Center's sailing program as it was covered by The News-Herald last year.

Notice of Race
For those of you who are racing, you can download the Notice of Race here:
http://www.grsc.net/regatta/2014/2014%20GRSC%20Regatta%20Notice%20of%20R...
There will be two separate races courses - one-design/dinghy and the cruising class/PHRF fleets on Saturday and Sunday. As for the dinghy races, Flying Scot and Laser fleets are planning to participate. The local Thistle, Jet 14 and Highlander fleets have expressed interest. We hope the Cleveland Sight Center's crews and skippers will be able to join us this year, too.

Weekend Highlights
As always GRSC puts on a G-R-E-A-T time for all - there's dinghy and PHRF yacht racing ("feeder" race from MHYC on Wednesday, August 20th) and on-site camping, along with delicious food, music and family fun. The beer wagon will feature domestic and premium beers starting Friday night with the women's race and opening party. Come with an appetite --  Nelly Belly and Sterle's Country House gourmet food trucks will be serving up great eats. They will be parked at Grand River Marine Sailing Center in Fairport Harbor --  Nelly Belly on Friday night and Saturday afternoon and Sterle's on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. And be sure to take part in our traditional raffles and games of skill!

Entertainment and Special Sponsorship Opportunity
For entertainment we have the silky-voiced Anita Keys, who will perform Friday night. Versatile guitarist Ryann Anderson will provide the entertainment on Sunday with his Trio. And, this year, we have a special treat ---  The Chardon Polka Band. They perform on Saturday afternoon. If you've never seen or heard them, be sure to catch them while you can at the GRSC regatta. The band is soon to have its own reality TV show AND a video crew will be at the regatta performance taping them! (BTW, if you want to be a sponsor, or know someone who does, here's a chance to get some national TV coverage by having a banner posted!

Stay tuned for details in the coming weeks and please DO forward this message.

See you in August!
