2013 Michigan-Ontario Districts at Crystal Lake, MI

From Frank Gerry, FSSA President

On the weekend of September 7-8, 2013, we had the fortune to attend a super good small regatta in the middle of Michigan.  We have the opportunity to travel to many nice regattas throughout the Midwest just like many of you folks do across the Flying Scot landscape.   The cool thing about this event was watching  the great job a small club can do with a roll up your sleeves attitude and a lot of good old volunteerism.   Crystal Sailing Club is a small club with maybe 40 members located in none other than Crystal, Michigan!    The club has a single launch ramp, a single pier and a nice functional clubhouse.   Yachts are primarily Flying Scots and Sunfish with a few other small boats.   This year they hosted the Michigan-Ontario districts drawing boats from mostly Michigan and few of us out of district boats from Illinois.   Our excellent hosts lead by regatta chair Steve Rajkovich, PRO Steve Last and Commodore Joe Kopchick, put on a great event.   For the sailor, all the ingredients were there;   Nice weather,  idyllic location, super hospitable hosts, good food ( Steve the regatta chair and team cooked breakfast for us all ), good sailing ( thanks to Mother Nature, Steve the PRO and team).   It was a fun time.
