2013 Hospitality Regatta in Jackson, MS

District:

2013 Hospitality Regatta, Jackson MS

On October 19 and 20 2013, the Jackson Yacht Club hosted its annual fall regatta, the Hospitality Regatta.  In the past, this has been a premier regatta for sailors all classes in the Deep South with several hundred boats participating at its peak including a large Scot fleet.  Unfortunately participation has dwindled over the years.

Thanks to the tireless work of regatta chair, Sherrye LaCour, that trend was reversed this year.  Our record turnout for recent years featured Flying Scots, J22s, multihull, PHRF spinnaker and cruising fleets.  In addition, area Lightening has added Jackson to their traveling circuit.

The weather gods cooperated with mild temperatures and great breeze in 15 knot range on Saturday.  PRO, Gary Rodgers and his team ran three flawless races.  On Sunday, the races started in light area which died leading to the abandonment of the final race.

Off the water including cold adult beverages dockside, a wing cooking contest and junior event with the club’s fleet of brand new Optimists.  Dinner included pulled pork with all the trimmings and live music.

No doubt next year’s event will be even better.  Make plans to join us for good sailing and hospitality that only the Deep South can offer.  Area Scoters make plans to come next year.  We would not want the Lightening to have a larger fleet again!
